CHRISTIAN RESOURCES
EXHIBITION CRE 2008 runs from 13th to 16th May, at Sandown Park Race Course,
Esher, Surrey. It's a sort of "Ideal Home" exhibition for the churches! "One day
to inspire the next 365", say the organisers. Certainly there’s no other
opportunity to meet up with so many specialist church suppliers, charities and
mission organisations in one place at one time. All tickets are valid for
attendance on all days - so if you don’t manage to talk to all of the 300+
exhibitors on your first visit then you could go back later in the week! There
is always plenty to see and do, with lectures and interviews and demonstrations
of all kinds every day. We could make it a group outing - ring Paul/Kathrine,
322134 if interested. SOUTHEND BACH CHOIR SUMMER HOLIDAY CLUB |
TUESDAY TRIPPERS 13th May 2008. Join us for a stroll through Limehouse and Wapping from Canary Wharf to Tower Bridge. In the 18th and 19th centuries London was the busiest port in the world and the narrow streets reflect what happened here with towering wharves and narrow alleys leading down to the Thames. Among the places we will see is the oldest police station, opened even before London‘s official police force was established and the place where "The Gang of Four" formed the short lived Social Democratic Party on 25th January 1981. You will see the church with the second highest clock face in London and the one at which John Wesley preached his last sermon in 1790. We will also see the site of the house where the colour mauve was discovered. The trip does include a lot of walking (about three miles on cobbled streets) so good footwear is essential. Bring a picnic lunch and hope for fine weather as we will be eating about halfway along the route. Meet at South Woodham Ferrers railway station at 9.25am at the very latest, to get 50% discount on rail travel. THE LIFE OF CHRIST |

FLOSS HENDERSON It is with very great sadness that we report that Floss passed away in hospital on Monday 21st April following a cardiac arrest. Floss and her husband Bert were founder members of the Methodist Church in South Woodham Ferrers. They began with house meetings in the early seventies, and Floss has been an active member of this church community since then. We will remember her for her bright and lively personality and friendliness as well as her total devotion to her family and her church. Our sincere condolences go to her sons Roger and Derek, her daughter-in-law Jenny and her grandchildren James and Katharine. The funeral will be on Wednesday 7th May, 11.00a.m. at Holy Trinity and then on to Chelmsford Crematorium. WHAT DOES CHRISTIAN AID DO? Responds to emergencies and funds long term development work and challenges the unjust systems that make and keep people poor. Works in partnership with over 600 local organisations in excess of 50 countries overseas. Challenges those with power to change things that have an adverse effect on poor communities, such as international trade rules and climate change. WHAT CAN YOU DO? Christian Aid Week is 11th – 17th May and here’s how YOU can help: Help with the door to door collection in your own street, or in a street near you. Help for a couple of hours with the collection in Asda, 9am - 5pm on Saturday 17th May. Sponsor a collector. If you don’t get a red envelope through your door,(It’s not possible to collect in every street in the town), this is your opportunity to make a donation. Help to organise a Coffee Morning. This could be any Saturday morning in May. Something new - Come to our QUIZAID, our Quiz Night in aid of Christian Aid, on Friday 9th May at 7.30pm in St Joseph’s school hall. Teams of 8. Tickets £5. When it’s all over come to our evening session when we count the money. Please contact Barbara Evans 324086 if you can help in any way |
