Christian Aid

To raise money for Christian Aid, we will be having a Bake Sale after church next Sunday (18th). Please make a cake, pie, biscuits or some cupcakes (or other goodies!) and bring them along to the service.

It is still not too late to help with the door to door collection in either your own street, or in a street near you – there are still lots of streets not covered!! This runs from today until Saturday 17th May. Please speak to Barbara Evans on 324086.

Tuesday Trippers

Our next trip, on 13th May 2008, will be led by John & Sheila Emmines. Why not join us for a stroll through Limehouse and Wapping from Canary Wharf to Tower Bridge? The walk along Narrow Street and Wapping High Street is one of the most interesting in London. In the 18th and 19th centuries London was the busiest port in the world and the narrow streets reflect what happened here with towering wharves and narrow alleys leading down to the Thames. Among the places we will see is the oldest police station, opened even before London‘s official police force was established and the place where "The Gang of Four" formed the short lived Social Democratic Party on 25th January 1981. You will see the church with the second highest clock face in London and the one at which John Wesley preached his last sermon in 1790. We will also see the site of the house where the colour mauve was discovered. The trip does include a lot of walking (about three miles on cobbled streets) so good footwear is essential. Bring a picnic lunch and hope for fine weather as we will be eating about halfway along the route. Join us at South Woodham Ferrers railway station at 9.25am at the very latest for group travel and then go back in time.

The Passion

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday 27th May at 7.30 pm. at Holy Trinity Church. We shall be walking some possible routes around the town – so that we can plan the event. We also need as many people as possible to come to the meeting to express an interest in taking part. Without YOU it won’t happen!

Contact Julie Hardy or Father Paul Fox for more information.

"A mother was preparing pancakes for her sons, Kevin 5, and Ryan 3. The boys began to argue over who would get the first pancake. Their mother saw the opportunity for a moral lesson. 'If Jesus were sitting here, He would say, 'Let my brother have the first pancake, I can wait.' Kevin turned to his younger brother and said, 'Ryan, you be Jesus!'"

VISION STATEMENT

TOWARDS A VISION
FOR THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND IN SOUTH WOODHAM FERRERS

PCC VISION STATEMENT as adopted 26th April 2007

Where do we want to be in five years from now?

We are looking for a Church that is:-

1) steadily growing in numbers, in faith, and in witness;

2) working in close harmony with our ecumenical partners at Holy Trinity Church and in fellowship with other Christian congregations meeting locally;

3) recognised as playing a significant rôle in the life of our town and mindful of the concerns of the world beyond;

4) relevant to people at every point in their life, with attractive and flexible patterns of worship plus a good range of activities and initiatives for all age groups;

5) closely and clearly linked to the town-wide ministry of priest and people, with ‘stepping stones’ to draw in residents who have “met a Christian but not yet encountered the Church”;

6) well equipped to magnify even the briefest interaction with individuals who can offer only a limited degree of ‘involvement’ on account of the many other and equally valid demands upon their time and talents;

7) adequately resourced with a trained and committed parish ministry team, mostly self-supporting, including some personnel shared with other organisations so as to ensure maximum deployment of ‘niche’ competencies such as those relating to the young, the elderly, industry, healthcare, counselling, evangelism, spirituality, parenting, schools, music-making, etc.,

8) offering support, encouragement and comfort to its members and friends in ways that are structured yet not intrusive, e.g. through systematic pastoral contact and pro-active welfare work;

9) built upon the gifts of the whole membership, with distributed leadership, organic development, a high degree of self-regulation and mutual awareness through ever wider ownership of our shared vision.
