Book of Remembrance

The Book of Remembrance has been provided by the Catholics and everyone is invited to write in the names of members of their families and friends who have died, those for whom you would like everyone to pray for. The book will be recognised and honoured by special prayers Sunday by Sunday. Be assured, writing names in the book adds to our healing process, along with knowing that all the names of our loved ones are being remembered.

Swine 'Flu

We have now received further guidance from our Bishops. They are greatly concerned at the susceptibility of young people to this particular virus.

The issue is not so much about any risks that individuals may be willing to take with their own health, but rather the danger of passing on a potentially fatal infection. For the sake of the vulnerable, they most strongly recommend that at Holy Communion in our Diocese only the President of the Eucharist should receive in both kinds. Your Clergy, Churchwardens & PCC are therefore asking you to accept the need for Holy Communion to be distributed only under the form of wafers placed directly into the hand. Be assured that the fullness of Holy Communion is by no means impaired by this voluntary limitation. The Archbishops continue to issue guidance to the Bishops on a monthly basis, and we hope for a return to normal just as soon as we get the "all clear". Your Clergy and their assistants will make liberal use of antiseptic gel. The Peace will continue to be personally shared, unless and until there is a major outbreak of infection within our local community.

With love to you all

Paul & Stephanie, on behalf of the Churchwardens and Parochial Church Council.

Shoebox Thank You

Thank you to everyone who has contributed in any way towards the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal. This year, as a Church and some friends, we have sent 34 shoeboxes to children in Kyrgyzstan on the borders with China. Each one of those boxes will be received with joy and delight and words cannot begin to describe the difference it could make to each child. Thank you very, very much. Please pray for each of the shoeboxes and its recipient.

Christmas Journey Tickets

If you would like to come and see the dress rehearsal of the Christmas Journey Live at Marsh Farm on Sunday 29th November at 4p.m., please contact Paul and Julie Hardy on 325234. Tickets allocated on a first come, first served basis. Ideally we would like the tickets to go to family and friends of the cast, as well as church members. This way it frees up tickets for the actual performances so that members of the public can get to see the show.

We are still seeking a Joseph for one of the days – please contact us if you can help.

Ministry of Film

The next screening is on Saturday 28th November and the film will start at 7.45p.m. We invite you to watch a film, have fun, socialise and to engage with the local community. We are unable to advertise the forthcoming film but for more information and offers of help, please call 01245 325234.

Handel’s Messiah

Being performed by the Southend Bach Choir with the Essex Concert Orchestra on Saturday, 28th November at 7.30p.m. at St Margaret’s Church, Lime Avenue, Leigh-on-Sea. Tickets are £8 (concessions £7). Please contact Margaret Partridge on 320048 or Sheila Jenkins on 321739 for tickets or more details.

VISION STATEMENT

TOWARDS A VISION
FOR THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND IN SOUTH WOODHAM FERRERS

PCC VISION STATEMENT as adopted 26th April 2007

Where do we want to be in five years from now?

We are looking for a Church that is:-

1) steadily growing in numbers, in faith, and in witness;

2) working in close harmony with our ecumenical partners at Holy Trinity Church and in fellowship with other Christian congregations meeting locally;

3) recognised as playing a significant rôle in the life of our town and mindful of the concerns of the world beyond;

4) relevant to people at every point in their life, with attractive and flexible patterns of worship plus a good range of activities and initiatives for all age groups;

5) closely and clearly linked to the town-wide ministry of priest and people, with ‘stepping stones’ to draw in residents who have “met a Christian but not yet encountered the Church”;

6) well equipped to magnify even the briefest interaction with individuals who can offer only a limited degree of ‘involvement’ on account of the many other and equally valid demands upon their time and talents;

7) adequately resourced with a trained and committed parish ministry team, mostly self-supporting, including some personnel shared with other organisations so as to ensure maximum deployment of ‘niche’ competencies such as those relating to the young, the elderly, industry, healthcare, counselling, evangelism, spirituality, parenting, schools, music-making, etc.,

8) offering support, encouragement and comfort to its members and friends in ways that are structured yet not intrusive, e.g. through systematic pastoral contact and pro-active welfare work;

9) built upon the gifts of the whole membership, with distributed leadership, organic development, a high degree of self-regulation and mutual awareness through ever wider ownership of our shared vision.
