A LITTLE BIT OF BACKGROUND INFORMATION

In the non-virtual world our home is in the new "countryside town" of South Woodham Ferrers, not far from Chelmsford (the county town of Essex). We are surrounded on three sides by tidal creeks leading down to the River Crouch, which flows into the North Sea.

We have been on-line one way and another (Micronet, Prestel, C-View, Packet Switching, Telecom Gold, etc.,) since 1983, Paul having first started playing with modems in the late 1960's. Preacherman was his CB 'handle' in the 1980's and simply followed him onto the net a decade later.

Paul was always reluctant to have a PC at home, saying that he'd prefer not to keep data in the house! Eventually the price crashes demolished all objections and if you peer through the door of our den you will finally catch us making use of the dreaded machine. If some of our pages still seem rather kluncky it's because they started life on the back of an envelope in the 1990's before being uploaded from a Minitel terminal...

Kathrine is a member of South Woodham Ferrers Town Council - one of the links above will take you to her home page. We have two sons, both now in their 30s. Roy is in Poland teaching English through drama and community activities. Bruce is a Registered Mental Health Nurse living with his wife and family in Brentwood. Ask us for their e-mail addresses if you want to contact them.

Our family motto: OUBLIE DONC NE SUIS ~ there was a time when we knew what this meant, but sadly no longer... ;-)
